When it comes to gifting, sometimes it’s the smaller details that really make people smile. Yes, jewellery, clothes and gadgets are great (sometimes expensive) gifts, but do they really feel personal or give the recipient a sense that you really know them? After the year that was, we’re all about sentimentality, making people laugh, cry and love – and what better way to show you care than with a personalised mug! Humble and small, the classic mug might seem like an odd choice – but we’re here to show you how a personalised mug can be your go-to gift for any person, holiday or occasion.
6 personalised mug ideas:
- Think outside of the chocolate box on Valentine’s Day.
- Get festive with a Christmas mug.
- Pull at mums heartstrings on Mother’s Day.
- Make dad smile with a Father’s Day mug.
- Show your teachers you appreciate them.
- Surprise the whole family with something sentimental.
1. Valentine’s Day mugs
Chocolate and flowers are classic Valentine’s Day gifts, but if you’re looking for a cute, one-of-a-kind way to show you care, a personalised mug will set you apart. Create a design with your favourite selfie or couples pic (wedding pictures work outside of frames too!), write down your partners favourite quote or inside joke, or create a design with their favourite print.
Want to take your gift to the next level?
Prepare your loved one a hot chocolate mug brownie in their new mug!
Mug brownie recipe:
- 1 egg
- 3 tablespoons of milk
- 2 tablespoons of oil
- 2 level tablespoons of cocoa powder
- 2 level tablespoons of sugar
- 3 level tablespoons of flour
- ¼ teaspoon of baking powder
Beat the egg in the mug, then mix in the milk, oil, cocoa powder and sugar.
Add the flour and baking powder and mix well to ensure there are no lumps.
Cook in the microwave for 2 minutes on the highest setting and voila! The perfect decadent Valentine’s Day treat.
2. Christmas mugs
Want a fail-safe secret Santa gift or stocking stuffer? Personalised mugs for Christmas are the perfect affordable gift. Create a design that’s super festive for customer and employee gifts, give your best friends personalised mugs decorated with matching photos from your favourite brunch or holiday you took together, or create a mug you want to use for festive drinks come Christmas morning.
3. Mother’s Day mugs
Show mum how much you appreciate her by giving her breakfast in bed and a cup of tea in her new favourite mug on Mother’s Day. After all, acts of service make a great gift too! Your personalised Mother’s Day mug can be as sentimental or as silly as you like. Add a heartfelt photo or message that’ll make her ugly cry or put her number one child (the family dog) on display.
4. Father’s Day mugs
We must admit, dads can be tricky to shop for – they just never seem to get as excited by sentimental gifts like mums do. But you can take your gift to the next level (and show you care) by thinking about the presentation. We love the idea of placing small items (like a rolled-up tie or tickets to see his favourite band) inside a Father’s Day mug personalised to his taste.
5. Teacher mugs
Want to thank your child’s teacher for a great year, or welcome in the new school term? A mug for their morning tea or to hold their pens in is a thoughtful gift. A fun print (like florals or polka dots) or a design with their name are sure to please, so you don’t have to stress too much about getting to know your recipient. We also love the idea of including an inspirational quote to get them excited for the school day ahead – bonus points if it’s about all the hard work your teacher is doing.
Our favourite teacher quotes:
“Those who know, do. Those that understand, teach.” – Aristotle
“Teaching is the greatest act of optimism.” – Colleen Wilcox
“When one teaches, two learn.” – Robert Heinlein
“It takes a big heart to shape little minds.” – Unknown
“Pencils racing across paper, a sound I like.” – Eileen Granfors
6. Personalised family mugs
Sometimes there’s no better reason to give a gift than to brighten someone’s day or make them smile. And as families were kept apart for so much of this year, there’s no shame in being sentimental and surprising your loved ones with a small, “just because” gift. We love the idea of creating a personalised grandchildren mug for nan and pop, which showcases their favourite little people or matching personalised sister mugs that you can say cheers with over Zoom calls. Or why not create a unique personalised mug for every member of your family – that way there’ll be no fighting for the best cup on the shelf during breakfast.
