How Aussie small businesses survived 2020

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

A global pandemic, bushfires, floods and a mouse plague – Aussies did it tough in 2020 and continue to do so in most parts of the country. All of these challenges have been felt especially hard by small businesses, who’ve had to survive through shutdowns and income losses and pivot to new ways of working.

In fact, in a recent study carried out by Vistaprint and YouGov, we discovered that more than half of Aussie small businesses made sacrifices to keep their businesses afloat in 2020 and 34% had to upskill to survive.

The infographic below captures some of the key findings, diving into small business issues and illuminating the challenges of the past year.

What did we do with all of this info?

After discovering the hardship small businesses went through during the past year, we wanted to help the community get back on its feet. As part of a global initiative, we launched 99 Days of Design in Australia and partnered with six Aussie businesses to give them a fresh start. From over 1800 entrants, we chose six winners and each business was given a brand new logo design from the pros at 99designs by Vistaprint, new marketing materials and a $15,000 cash donation to help execute their creative vision.
